Bug Description
Binary package hint: nvclock
The default brightness applet cannot adjust the brightness on my laptop (Sony Vaio FE890, nVidia Geforce Go 7600), so I use smartdimmer instead. smartdimmer -s will set the brightness correctly, and smartdimmer -d will decrease the brightness, but smartdimmer -i does nothing. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Alpha 4 32-bit, but this bug also occurs in the official release of Ubuntu 9.04.

I think I have a similar problem here. I've never been able to use the brightness buttons on my HP laptop (an 8510w) so I used "nvclock -S" to set it. When pressing the Fn keys it changes the brightness in the notification, but the real brightness stays the same.
When using smartdimmer, -s works but both -d and -i don't.
Ubuntu 9.04 here, HP 8510w, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M.
(If I need to file a new bug just tell me.)
