Bug Description
Binary package hint: nut
nut configuration takes too long, between reading docs, following steps and testing.
There should be an optional config step for the common case of 1 ups directly connected.
It would ask for the port and ups driver (if not detectable from the port), then generate
ups.conf upsd.conf upsd.users upsmon.conf

fully right Stephen,
I've developed the following plans, since I took over the project 2 svn.debian. org/wsvn/ nut/branches/ JD-NewConf/ ?rev=0& sc=0
years ago, to address this problem:
- make nut configless for USB UPS. NUT 2.2.0 has opened the door to
the HAL bridge.
but for those still needing a classic NUT installation (for
redundancy, network UPS server, ...), some udev scripting is still to
be done (see below)
- create a configuration library (to allow GUI and other conf helpers,
such as debconf) and a basic helper (upsconfig). This has already been
developed, along with a new conf file format, is scheduled for 2.4 and
is available here as a separate branch:
http://
I would have made it available for long, but sadly, the problem is and
remain the lack of manpower, and of time from the major developers...
