Bug Description

Same laptop - two different network dongles (ASUS USB-N13 + Edimax cheap commonly used with RaspPis). Confirmed issue with xenial-updates and xenial-security versions. Going to try to force a downgrade to original xenial to see if it still happens.

ASUS dongle -> $ inxi -Fxxrzc0 | pastebin
https://gist.github.com/d926d05c2bd23226a9f4b4a593b9de65

Edimax dongle -> $ inxi -Fxxrzc0 | pastebin
https://gist.github.com/f76284151c225ae43af82de8439efe02

They work fine w/ the 18.1 Installer/Live Boot.. They worked fine after the install.. when I did the latest update they broke.

^^^ note.. it attempts to connect to the wifi.. and manages a successful connection (my tomato router shows an assigned IP for the MAC of the wifi dongle).. but it fails in the process /before/ it saves the network name + password for auto connecting in the future... so at first this happened every time I plugged in the dongles because it would try to auto connect.. but if I deleted the saved network I could at least plug-in/remove the dongles (they would register with the USB hub) without issue. But once I attempted to connect / provide creds / etc it would bomb. Initially I thought it was dhclient but I don't think it is.

Whatever else you need I can paste.

No longer think this is a network-manager issue. On a fresh install I changed over to kernel 4.8.0-41 but did not perform any other updates and had the same issue. If I boot with the default 4.4.0-53 kernel I do not have this issue.

I also have this problem. At first when I trying connect to wi-fi it seems fine, after reconnecting it's suddenly unable connected to network.

To solve this problem with sudo service network-manager restart or downgrade to v1.2.2

See bug #1666421 , this is a possible duplicate.

I have this problem in Xubuntu 17.04 i386 and amd64 versions, in fresh install and live usb too, with my 2 different dongles (a rtl8187b and a Buffalo Nintendo WiFi). I tested the i386 iso on 2 computers (one of them is a 64 bit capable laptop). Ethernet and integrated rtl8188ce wifi adapter are working.
nm-applet and nmcli show the APs but fail at connecting to them.
No freeze while trying to connect to an AP.

I subscribed to this bug and clicked the 'Yes this bug affects me' before. But with the kernel version 4.4.0-75-generic (with Ubunut 16.04 LTS) I no longer have this bug.

Hope this means that others aren't experiencing this bug as well.
