After some prompting it was suggested I attach a debdiff of the above patches applied on 1.8.24-1ubuntu4. I've tested locally on my machine and it appears to work, as well as fix the bug I experienced.
I'd much prefer to backport the existing 1.22 package but there were too many updated package dependencies for me to get it working.
