@Jeff - hostname returns hostname. hostname --short returns hostname without domain part (it doesn't parse /etc/hosts; it looks at /etc/hostname which has single line and returns everything before the first '.'.

@nicholas - your eth0 is wireless?

@yct - what does? As you can see, there are couple of different problems in this bug report.
