ncftp doesn't interpret -u -p options

Binary package hint: ncftp
With the standard unix ftp I can login into my ftp-server, but with ncftp I can't.
My command:
$ ncftp server.com -u user -p password
debug output:
ncftp> open server.com -u user -p pass
