Bug Description
The yellow information box that appears at the bottom of the nautilus window can obscure the last entry in a list view.
*Observed Behaviour*
* Open a folder with several files or folders in it. The /tmp folder usually has enough files and folders to reproduce this bug.
* Switch to list view using the view menu, or the shortcut Ctrl-2.
* Resize the window to make the list longer than the window is high.
* Select any file.
* Try to read the filename of the last file displayed in the window.
It is frequently not possible to read the file name or details of the last file in the folder as the yellow box obscures it. This is particularly noticable if the file name of the selected file is very long.
*Expected Behaviour*
Since this information box obscures part of the window, it should be used only when it will:
* Not obscure existing information
* Provides information that is not already available
It happens that the default list view already displays all information that the yellow box provides. Therefore the yellow box should be disabled for list view.
The alternative is to alter the list view to always leave space at the bottom - which would then reduce the amount of elements that could be displayed. I have also seen other file browsers that have a thick border at the bottom. The information is then displayed in that border. This is much like leaving space at the bottom, and works quite well.
*Further Enhancements*
The yellow box does not display information that could not be found in other ways. It should be possible to disable the yellow box. Currently I can find no way to do so.
