Bug Description
Binary package hint: mplayer-nogui
BUG DESCRIPTION:
after upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubuntu 8.10 sometimes mplayer stops playing audio and video files from the internet, independently on a file type (mp3, mp4, avi, flv, ... etc.):
e.g. after starting in terminal:
mplayer http://
it plays 10-20 secs., then freezes and only Ctrl+C helps to get normal terminal's commandline back.
mplayer also always reports following error on starting to play any internet URL-ed file (report is marked by red color in a terminal):
E: socket-client.c: socket(): Address family not supported by protocol
SOLUTION:
This problem was resolved by just rebuilding this package:
sudo apt-build --reinstall install mplayer-nogui
now, mplayer takes also less CPU time ("sudo dpkg-reconfigure apt-build" with Optimization level:Strong ) and no error report is displayed anymore
