miro crashes when I try to increase or lower the volume

almost every other time i try to play one of the videocasts that i've downloaded (also using miro) and i go to turn the volume slightly up or down, the program completely shuts down. no explanation. i usually then just give up and try to find the file and open it with VLC. i like the miro format a lot but am always afraid to really get into anything long-form on miro for fear that any tweak will make the while thing shut down. bummer.
