Bug Description

Binary package hint: miro

Ubuntu release:
Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04

Miro version:
miro:
  Installed: 3.0.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.0.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.0.1-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When typing miro, miro should start.

But I get the following output:
GRE_GetGREPathWithProperties failed

Old Bug reports suggest, that the Problem is a gnome-python-extras (or newer python-gnome2-extras), but both packages do not exist anymore in lucid. (https://bugs.launchpad.net/democracy/+bug/181068)

Seems only to be a problem if upgrading from Karmic to Lucid, not on fresh install.

Sounds like you may have a stale ~/.miro present - if you move that aside does it work properly?

This doesn't have anything to do with ~/.miro. I'm guessing the user is missing dependencies that aren't listed in the package or there's a mismatch somewhere between XULRunner and gtkmozembed.

Regardless, we switched from XULRunner to webkit for Miro 3.0.2, so this issue will go away.

We have packages for Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid in the miro-releases PPA: https://launchpad.net/~pcf/+archive/miro-releases

I can confirm the version in the PPA fixes it for me on lucid.

Hi, just started getting same problem in Hardy. Miro was working fine until 2 days ago. Could it have been messed up by something in the Updates, e.g. firefox 3.0 updates?

Do the people having trouble with Miro starting on Lucid have xulrunner-1.9.1 installed?

Hi.
This morning I was running Miro just fine. Then installed the latest updates for Hardy and my Firefox was upgraded to 3.3.6. Since then Miro will not start.
miro's package version is 2.5.4-0pcf1

@SAL-e
You're running a version from a PPA and that's not supported.

Yes. I understand that PPA is not supported, but at the same time I see that other people who are running supported versions have same problem so I decided to report my problem also.
But the good news is that I able to fix mine install:
1. Open Synaptic Package Manager and search for xlurunner
2. Mark for installation xlurunner-1.9.2 and xlurunner-1.9.2-gnome-support
3. Click on 'Apply' to install the new version of xlurunner.

OR type the command in terminal:

sudo apt-get install xlurunner-1.9.2 xlurunner-1.9.2-gnome-support

After I did this Miro on my system starts with no error.

I hope it helps to other users also.

Thanks for responding to this.

I had actually forgotten all about this and have, meantime, upgraded to a new computer and to 10.04 (although NOT because of MIRO).

And, of course, now MIRO works just fine. Well except for the "file not found" errors I get from it with monotonous regularity.

Thanks again.
