Bug Description

This issue in Gnome has been known for decades.

It's discussed here among other places:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305277

For some reason, until 16.04, most of the applications I use regularly still had the right sorting icons, that is, ascending order was represented by a triangle with the base down and the vertex up (thin end up, fat end down, small things up big things down, ascending as you scroll down), and descending order was represented by a triangle with the base up and the vertex down (fat end up slim end down, big things up small things down, descending as you scroll down). Like in all other OSes and software UIs in the last 40 years.

I used to observe Gnome's reversed icons only in some applications.

Now they are all wrong. (yeah I appreciate that at least it's consistent, but it's consistently wrong).

If you can't get Gnome's team to come to their senses and understand and fix this, then you should either replace Gnome with something else or patch it.

Gnome's convention is wrong. Part of the confions comes from misunderstanding the triangle as arrows, but thinking of them as arrows makes intrinsically no sense and leads nowhere, as explained in the abovementioned thread.

It's time to put an end to this madness.
