Bug Description
Possible the problem is in another package, but gnome-shell makes the most sense to me.
Observed behavior - Windows frequently render with no grabbable frames, with misplaced black-boxes, "infinite mirror room" effects, z-fighting, etc. Will attempt to upload screenshots later. Problem is most pronounced in a Wayland session, but also exists in X11 session. System is unusable in this state.
Expected Behavior - Windows and window decorations render correctly.
Steps to reproduce - Install Ubuntu 23.04 as a guest in VMware Workstation (or player, likely) 17, using default settings on a Windows host.
Other notes - Problem does not happen in KDE. Problem did not happen (that I recall) under 22.10.

Screenshots of example misbehavior. I had to redact many of them to upload here. If unredacted versions would be helpful, please let me know and we can arrange some non-public sharing.
Many of the problems are transients and are difficult to capture in stills.
