Bug Description

Currently, I have numerous of items shown in the menu structure under "System", while they aren't in reality shown in the System menu. (Because they are listed under the Settings Manager in Xubuntu).

MenuLibre should either enable a mode or make the default mode show items only in categories where they will be shown in the menu in reality.

Alternatively, a visual cue to denote that the items are not shown in the menu (eg. light gray label on the menu structure) would work.

I can confirm this. With Xubuntu 14.04 LTS (Final) menu entries under for example (but not exclusively) System are not visible in the menu itself, although menulibre lists them as not hidden. This affects entries as for example Software Updater, Sessions and Startup, Software Sources and Updates, Printers, and Settings Editor. These entries are visible and accessible though through the Settings Manager.

I've been following this issue for the past year and struggling with the hidden/revealed menu items just as Pasi Lallinaho mentioned above. I also have duplicates, triplicates, and even quadruplicates of the same menu item within the same groups and this compounds the problem. Deleting .config/menus/*.* + .local/share/desktop-directories/*.* + .local/share/applications/*.* in the Home folder to rebuild the menu, doesn't help, so now just sit back and wait for any new developments.

Perhaps it would be possible for the developers to consider a single master list from which the users can pick and choose their own menu structure?

I've started implementing a fix for this. With the below commit, hidden items are now marked italic. This was an intended feature from the beginning, but the wrong keys were being evaluated.

For the second part of this implementation, I'll need to evaluate when items are explicitly hidden in the menu files.
