When attempting to add a new iterm mate-pannel crashes

When I attempted to add VisualWorks to the main menu->Programming the window crashes and closes. No menu item is added.

The program's name is VisualWorks.

The command is "$VISUALWORKS/bin/linuxx86_64/vwlinuxx86_64" "launchpad64.im"

The command works fine in a terminal window. Just can not add it to the Menu.
