No indication of invalid input (math functions)

Bug Description

There is no telling when using an invalid math function whether the function is out of bounds or just plain wrong. There should be some sort of error message when this happens.

I have sent this patch upstream also, but there does not seem to be much activity around there latley, so attaching a patch anyways that solves this issue.
