Bug Description

Binary package hint: cifs-utils

Using this command " sudo mount -t cifs -o guest //XXX.XXX.X.XXX/Volume_1/game-1110-32home/bill/ /media/bills-dns-game-1110-32home" I cannot mount using the new 3.0 kernel on Ubuntu 10.10. When I go back to the 2.6.39-3 kernel it mounts correctly

Sorry should be Ubuntu 11.10 with kernel 3.0-0 and 3.0-1 that I have the problem with.

Similar problem here.
Ubuntu 11.10 with kernel 3.0.0-12.

I have a couple of lines in my fstab which go like this:
//server/share /wheretomount cifs uid=flart,gid=users,credentials=/etc/wincredentials 0 0

If i do a "mount -a", i get a this for every share i have in my fstab:
mount error(112): Host is down
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

The server is reachable and i can see the shares perfectly with "smbclient -L"

same here.
this works when booting with old kernel (2.6.38-11) but not with new kernel (3.0.0.13.15).
with 3.0 kernel we cannot mount subdirectories.

this works ok :
mount.cifs //server/share /mountpoint

but not that
mount.cifs //server/share/subdir /mountpoint

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I regret upgrading to 11.10 from 11.04.

Between this bug and the now mandatory Unity interface (yuck!!!), I switched to Linux Mint.

Better.

I can confirm the same behavior in ubuntu 12.04. This is a showstopper bug for those of us needing to access windows shares in our work environment. Mount commands that work in 10.04 do not work in 12.04. Please address.

Hello, same story for me. At work, I upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04, and can no longer connect to the two cifs shares I had listed in fstab. The kernel is 3.2.0-24-generic. If I boot into the old (2.6.32-41) kernel, it works. I use one share for backups, and the other for file sharing, so it'd be nice to get things working again. Thanks.

I'm also confirming this issue with Xubuntu Precise 12.04.1.

- Kernel 3.2.0-32-generic #51-Ubuntu SMP (x86_64)
- samba (2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.3)
- smbfs (2:5.1-1ubuntu1)
- cifs-utils (2:5.1-1ubuntu1)

This still remains a problem with Debian 7.2. I have just upgraded a Debian 6 server to 7.2 and have noticed this issue.

This guy appears to have an understand of the problem, but there was no solution:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2011/08/msg00424.html (Debian Bug#637560)

My system is:

- Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.51-1 x86_64 GNU/Linux
- mount.cifs version: 5.5

Example issue:-

 sudo mount -v -t cifs "//server/share/subdir" /mnt/myshare --verbose -o "user=me"

 mount.cifs kernel mount options: ip=192.168.X.X,unc=\\server\share,user=me,prefixpath=subdir,pass=********
mount error(2): No such file or directory
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
