Highly recommend installing "luvcview" - very useful tool during testing to check different settings when trying to get a webcam working. How about making it part of the default Mint install?

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 543895

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

I'd really like to help further with this report, but company policy is to disallow h/w details, e.g. apport-collect data, to be sent to 3rd parties, on or off list. Sorry, it is frustrating. Not sure there is anything else I can do.

I've posted a workaround for this bug above, tested it and confirmed it works fine, and I'd suggest it is worthwhile leaving this report open to help others with the same problem who are searching the bug tracker find this work around.

jFo the issue affects others with the same camera. I applied the *fix* - it did not work for me using Lucid Lynx. There are at least a few others with hardware from the same vendor (Zareason) that I know of. I can help them file a bug if that would help.
