Bug Description
With a laptop hp dv7 1050ef, they are some sounds issues, which can be solved by adding the line "options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1" in alsa-base, but the subwoofer still doesn't work.
I use Ubuntu Jaunty, alsa 1.0.19.
My audio device :
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

I have the same issue in stock Jaunty, and I had the same issue in Intrepid.

In Jaunty, please use "apport-collect -p alsa-base 371048".

I also cannot get the subwoofer working on MSI EX625-227US, which has an 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller. I had no sound at all until i edited
nano /etc/modprobe.
and added these lines at the end
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
options snd-hda-intel single_cmd=1
The speakers now work, but not the subwoofer. I only see front speaker volume adjustment. This is my first time installing and using ubuntu, i love it so far. If i can provide more info please let me know.

Hi, I have the same problems with audio on a MSI EX623X-077EU laptop. It has the same audio circuits ( 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio ). I managed to make the front speakers (left and right) working. i edited
nano /etc/modprobe.
and added these lines at the end
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
options snd-hda-intel single_cmd=1
and had to check "Headphone:" under volume control-->switches .
But the subwoofer is still not working :( . I miss the bass. This is the only reason i dual boot with vista :(.

Hi Bertrand,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-
apport-collect -p linux 371048
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/
Thanks in advance.

The just-released ALSA 1.0.23 may help. From the changelog:
- ALSA: hda - Add Bass Speaker switch for HP dv7
The bass speaker is controlled via GPIO5.
Tested-by: Wael Nasreddine
Generally speaking, one doesn't file bugs using non-distro default packages. Can you reproduce the issue in stock Jaunty?
