"swapper tainted" messages spew in logs until disk fills

Bug #294812 reported by Owen Williams

Bug Description

Hardware: Dell M1330 (my own installation of ubuntu)
Software: Intrepid Ibex with newest kernel and backports module package installed (to solve wireless hard crashes)

Occasionally, usually after a resume from suspend, I get phenomenal log spew that looks like the attached file. I also see references to the message "scheduling from idle thread!"

The log spew is so fast that it pegs one of my CPU cores and fills up the logs to 2GB within 15 minutes or so, and my system slows to a crawl.

Looking at the logs, it seems to be related to the wireless card (iwlagn).

this may just be a dupe of 286285, which I just found by searching for different terms.

Hi Owen,

As you pointed out, this looks like a duplicate of bug 286285 so I'm marking it as such. I believe bug 286285 has a patch which went into the kernel that's now in intrepid-proposed. If you could test the -proposed kernel (I believe it should be 2.6.27-8.17) and give your feedback in bug 286285 that would be great. For info on how to enable -proposed see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed . The wiki describes enabling -proposed for hardy so just use intrepid instead. Thanks.
