Your webcam may or may not be uvc compatible. Depending on what version of Ubuntu you are running, I'd always test first with the program guvcview, but following this link generally: https:/ /help.ubuntu. com/community/ Webcam

You can check to see if the kernel module uvcvideo is loaded:
$ lsmod | grep uvc
If you don't see uvcvideo listed, load it:
$ sudo modprobe uvcvideo
