Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream stable kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.19 stable kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Testing with ppa kernel 3.19.8-031908ckt6-generic seems to resolve the issue. At least no more crashes/freezes have occurred since then.
I have added the 'kernel-fixed-upstream" tag as requested.

I started a kernel bisect between v3.19.0-28 and v3.19.0-29. The kernel bisect will require testing of about 6 test kernels.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
44d23454131ed2b4fd667241ac8940b598d55aa1

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1495696

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

Sad news: I had the same crash with the 3.19.8 kernel a couple of times now.
The obvious symptom is that the screen turns off and searches for a new signal source (HDMI/VGA/etc.).
This time it happened when zooming in Firefox (CTRL+Mousewheel) while a Youtube video was loading in a background tab.
I have tried to connect via SSH from a different machine to see if only the screen/GPU is not working correctly but it didn't go beyond login which indicates that some kind of lockup occurs.

I have attached the latest logfile from /var/crash/

Sorry for sparse/superficial information but my experience with kernel-debugging is rather limited...

Dennis L., anytime you get a crash file, please file a new report against it as it will be dealt with by the automatic retracer:

I suffered from these messages after upgrading to Kubuntu 16.04.

After changing my hard drive, then my entire PC, then upgrading the kernel to 4.5.2 and also my nVidia drivers to 364.19, the messages went away.

However, I STILL saw intermittent lockups. These finally went away after I turned off KDE's file indexing (baloo-file-indexer). I suspect that my original NMI problems could have also stemmed from that.

I've latched onto bug #1548051 for the file-indexing problem.
