Bug Description

SRU Justification:

Impact: Intel's latest wireless adapter will disconnect automatically
Fix: bump firmware API version to 9(the version 9 firmwares of 3160, 7260 and 7265 were already in trusty, but need an upgrade from 23.214.9.0 to the latest 25.222.9.0)
Testcase: already tested with Intel 7265 [8086:095b] in OEM projects.

for linux, only trusty need to be fixed, and for linux-firmware trusty & utopic need to be fixed(which are already fix committed actually, thanks to Seth)

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-trusty' to 'verification-done-trusty'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

hi. I got Intel 7260ac adapter and upgrading to 3.13.0-44.73 kernel broke wi-fi stability. I reverted back to 3.13.0-43.72 and connection is stable back again.

@sergio, that's weird, could you post you dmesg output? btw, you better upgrade linux-firmware as well

@Sergio

Please *poweroff* your laptop, then boot to 3.13.0-44.73 kernel (reboot doesn't work here).

If it is still unstable, post the whole dmesg output, thanks.

thanks @Adam, it worked for me. btw, what's the difference between simple reboot and poweroff-poweron?

Adam Lee (adam8157) wrote :

@Sergio, great, the new firmware won't be loaded via rebooting because that wireless adapter is powered on via rebooting, old firmware is still in adapter's rom and driver ignores the firmware loading step since there is already a firmware loaded in adapter's rom.

Hi, I'm running an Intel 7265AC adapter and I'm still getting frequent disconnects/reassociations in Trusty. Current kernel version is 3.13.0.45.52, linux-firmware 1.127.11. I've tried doing a full power cycle and the problem still occurs. dmesg output is attached.
