Asus R751L Notebook - Touchpad not recognized

Bug Description

I made a fresh install of ubuntu 13.10.
After that dist upgraded.

Mouse works if I attach an optical mouse. This works fine.

My touchpad isn't recognized. Even I cannot see a tab for touchpad in settings.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.13 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Description of my bug is mouse does not work at all. Device is elantech ETD0108. Laptop is Asus TP500LN. Dmesg gives "lost sync at byte 6" messages. Mouse does work with proto=imps parameter but no two-finger functionality. If this is the same with you, after sudo su try
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/reg_07
(or serioX?)
and see if it fixes the issue.

For at least asus TP500LN a kernel patch is under consideration
