Bug Description
Binary package hint: acpi-support
This did not occur with Xubuntu 7.10 tribe 4 (booted the cd to verify) but does occur with the current kernel. No error message displays during normal (quiet) boot, I only saw this because I was looking at dmesg to try and trace down a different problem. Unfortunately this means I can't say when the change first happened.

(Not an acpi-support bug, leaving targetted at the kernel)
