Bug Description

After the 5.8 kernel update, my Ubuntu 20.04.1 installation stopped seeing any networks, either wireless or USB tethering from my phone. The ifconfig command only showed the loopback interface.

I rolled back to 5.4.0-59-generic, and it works fine.

The offending package is linux-image-5.8.0-34-generic, version 5.8.0-34.37~20.04.2.

This also affects linux-image-5.8.0-38-generic and also effects many other devices such as the snd_hda_intel (audio card) and REaltek RTS5209 card reader. I now have 11 'UNCLAIMED' devices where where before I only had 1.
