Bug Description

According to http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/HardwareSupportMachinesLaptops ,
the modem on powerbook is "known to work". I have a TiBook 867. I added the
modem to Computer->System Config->Networking, then select that interface and
click properties, then "Autodetect" the modem port, and it shows "Could not
autodetect modem device. Check that the device is not busy and that is correctly
attached to the computer". I have /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1, but setting them as
the modem port would not get me a connection when I try to activate it (the
active check box would be checked for half a second and then become unchecked).

The modem works fine in OS X, so it should not be a hardware problem or cable issue.

Requires miserable binary-only horrible stuff that we're not allowed to
redestribute at all. Thanks, Linuxant. I've already asked them for permission to
redestribute their drivers, but they never replied. You can download drivers
from http://www.linuxant.com.

Changing package as a restricted driver could go into this package... Is there anyway you can contact them again for permission?

It may be worth a go, but on the other hand, the last time I checked (not very long ago) they were still shipping code that used a technical measure to make the module claim to be GPLed even though it isn't so I'm not terribly inclined to bother.

Do you still have your notebook. It must be now 8 years old. Can we close this bug?
