Bug Description

I installed the vivd lts upgrade in order to obtain a kernel which recognised the touchpad on my Toshiba laptop. The kernel now installs the ALPS driver, but the touchpad is now unusable. Normal light touch movement is simply not recognised at all. Pressing harder will get the pointer to move, but it appears to be trying to do things with rectangles given the screen display, and it's almost impossible to get it to move into menus. As a consequence I've now started having to use an external mouse. The sole upside so far is that tap to click is turned off (which is why I wanted the ALPS driver in the first place),or perhaps it's turned off touchpad whilst typing. Either way, I no longer find myself being presented with menus whilst typing, or suddenly finding the focus has moved. But having to take an external mouse around with a laptop is a nuisance, especially as the hardware is clearly working (it works under the kernels from trusty apart from the tapping nonsense).
