package linux-image-4.4.0-38-generic 4.4.0-38.57~14.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

after package installation, it just display the error message. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.5.
Prior to this update, I was reinstalling ttf-mscorefonts-installer which failed; this is the script
I ran:
  sudo rm -rf /var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/partial/*
  sudo apt-get --purge --reinstall install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
