Core2Duo CPU only reports 1 core (Karmic&Lucid beta)

Following today's kernel update, it now sees 2 cpu (but still at the wrong frequency)

I have an older box with 2 2.4 GHz Xeon processors only one cpu is started with the current karmic kernel 2.6.31-14-generic

the upgrade from 9.04 -> 9.10 left some 9.04 kernels in /boot 2.6.28-16-generic starts both cpus

Could not figure out how to attach the second dmesg where 2.6.28-16-generic successfully started both cpus here it is

I'm at 2.6.31-18 SMP with an E8400 Core2Duo - only reports one core

This bug was filed against a series that is no longer supported and so is being marked as Won't Fix. If this issue still exists in a supported series, please file a new bug.
