Bug Description

WORKAROUND:

Add kernel parameter: i915.enable_psr=0

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:

This always happens when the cursor sweeps over a height range (approximately 960px ~ 990px from the top). Even when watching a video, the top of the screen sometimes glitches.

I experience the same bug on Intel 12th gen. Please try adding kernel parameter:

  i915.enable_psr=0

which has fixed it for me on a different laptop.

Same bug here: the lower third of the screen shows extremely long cursor delays. But the problem does not manifest itself on a secondary screen with laptop closed.

This bug affects me as well, as reported in duplicate bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-525/+bug/2004349

I upgraded to Ubuntu 23.04 with Kernel 6.1.0-16, and I am unable to reproduce the issue. Screen freezes and artifacts are no longer present on my laptop:

System information: Ubuntu 23.04 x86_64
Kernel: 6.1.0-16-generic
Hardware: Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7620
CPU: Intel i7-12700H
GPU: Intel Alder Lake-P
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Mobile / Max-Q
External monitor: ASUS 34" @ 3440x1440 (Tested through Dell USB-C dock and directly connected to laptop HDMI output)

I can confirm that disabling PSR fixes the problem on my laptop (see bug #2008053). Thanks a lot to @vanvugt for suggesting the workaround. When there is a real fix for this issue in Ubuntu 22.04, I will try to re-enable PSR and check if it works.
