Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Is this reproducible after `sudo aptitude reinstall libcanberra-gtk-module`?

Good day, I issued sudo aptitude reinstall libcanberra-gtk-module

Click Copy cd/dvd
Placed copy of gparted-live-0.7.0-11.iso in folder

Click write
Click create from image
click write
"Copying disc image"
"Completed writing /home/bill/Downloads/gparted-live-0.7.0-11.iso"
message appears but nothing written to the cd.
Same as before and repeatable

I had this error showing up every time I ran a GUI app from the command line, in Kubuntu 10.10.

Apparently there's some sort of dependency problem, because if I reinstall libcanberra-gtk-module it tries to install a new package, libcanberra-gtk0.

Once that package gets installed, the problem goes away.

Just for information:
Given that "libcanberra-gtk-module" was installed already, "libcanberra-gtk0" should have been installed already, too (via dependencies).

I've ran across bug 711399, and the following might be the case for you, too:

It looks that you had libcanberra-gtk-module installed, but then removed it (but not purged it).

This way the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/52libcanberra-gtk-module_add-to-gtk-modules has been left, which adds canberra-gtk-module to GTK_MODULES.

You can fix the (rather cosmetic) error by e.g. pruning the package: "sudo dpkg -P libcanberra-gtk-module".

The real fix might be to only adjust GTK_MODULES, if the module itself (.so file) is still installed.
