Bug Description

Binary package hint: language-selector

Hi I'm using Hardy, with all the last updates. In the language selector, I can choose as language Friulian (ISO code: fur). But I never get it in the combo box below, so I can't really use it. On the left, instead of a tick such as in other supported languages, I get a minus (-). Could you please enable full language support for Ubuntu Hardy? Thanks

Seems there is no locale data available for 'fur'. Therefor it is impossible to use that language on the system.
Given that the locale data is missing, what sense does it make to
 a) have language-packs available for this language
 b) offer this language in language-selector?

by locale data, you mean that provided by 'locales' package? I can see fur_IT in locales (2.7.9-4)

Ah, ok, I missed that...

So, locale data is available, but the "fur_IT.UTF-8" entry is missing in /var/lib/locales/supported.d/fur , which is shipped by language-pack-fur-base.
Maybe that one is the culprit here?

it may be. I also noticed that the package language-support-fur is missing, I don't know if this could also be a problem. Could we CC this bug to language pack mantainers or should I fill a new bug against it? thanks

already done. :) I'm one of them.

language-support-$lang is a meta package containing dependencies for additional useful packages for a $lang environment.
For example, if there would be a myspell-fur or a openoffice-l10n-fur package, they would go in there.
As we don't have such packages, a language-support-fur meta package makes no sense.

language-packs and language-support packages are generated by script. So the bug is that the script missed that the locale fur_IT.UTF-8 is indeed available.
