landscape-client generates dns queries for every ping operation

3. landscape-client ping caches DNS lookup to canonical.landscape.com, maybe invalidate cache if ping fails.

4. each ping operation, by default every 30 seconds, looks up v4 and v6 addresses for landscape.canonical.com in-case the IP has changed since 30 seconds ago.
