Bug Description
The default plasma activity is called "New Activity".
This is confusing because it makes the "cashew" look like a button to be used to create a new activity rather than a way of accessing options related to the current activity (whatever it happens to be named).
The purpose and functions of Activities are left for the user to discover by trial and error, and so they are not the easiest thing to get to grips with in the first place. The "New Activity" name can only make things worse, for example by implying that the menu items that pop up from the cashew are for creating new activities, potentially leading the user to believe that widgets and groups are both types of "activity".
n.b.: I apologise that I was unable to find out what the proper name is for the thing that I know only as the "cashew".

This bug was fixed in the package kubuntu- default- settings - 1:12.10ubuntu1
--------------- default- settings (1:12.10ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low
kubuntu-
* Make new splash logo artwork form a proper (round) circle (LP: #981898) theme-kubuntu- text from plymouth source package. theme-kubuntu- text from arch any to all (only contains
* Import plymouth-
Since plymouth has no epoch this is a no-brainer (LP: #1005512)
* Change plymouth-
a config, but no binary data)
* Set name of our default Plasma activity to desktop. This does not
introduce a new string as Desktop is also the name upstream uses, so
localization is already present (LP: #1004917)
* Set battery and wireless plasma widget key bindings (opening power
management and networkmanagement respectively)
* Refactor keybinding code in plasma default layout to be reusable and
scale better for future endeavors
* Don't activate date by default in plasma as discussed on ML -> no
strong consensus whether we should have it so go with what upstream
has
