kpackagekit only ever warns about updates after first logging in

Bug Description

Binary package hint: kpackagekit

I tend to keep my machine up and running for days at a time. I wondered why it never warned me about new package updates and then realised that it did but only after I restarted the machine and logged in again when kpackagekit popped up with 100-odd updates.
