This is still a problem in Ubuntu 12.04 current beta Precise Pangolin.

Being an LTS version, this should be resolved before production release.

I got the default large horizontal window as per screenshot in comment # 1.

Then, I RESIZED to the smallest horizontal setting as per attached screenshot in comment # 7.

So the problem cannot be upstream in KMyMoney as you suggested but appears to be in Unity.

Likewise, would be awesome if you or someone who knows the unity codebase
could point this out. I was pretty certain it was a Kmymoney bug but the
reporter insists it's a unity bug making me doubt my analysis.

I'll also contact kmymoney authors to see what can be done.

Andrea, Rohan,

Thanks for your input.

If you look at the screenshots from comments # 7 and # 8, you will see that this problem DOES NOT EXIST if I boot Ubuntu into either of the XFCE or LXDE desktops.

So the problem cannot be with KMyMoney. Unity is the most obvious suspect.

Rohan,

I agree with your opinion. It would be wonderful if the Unity team could review this bug.

Andrea,

Can you help with this?

Thanks.

If the bug is not in Unity, then it is in a module called by Unity THAT IS NOT CALLED by either of XFCE or LXDE desktops.

Andrea,

Either way, be it in Unity, or in a module called by Unity, we need the help of the Unity team.

If the problem is in Unity, then the Unity team will address.

If the problem is in a module called by Unity, then the Unity team will refer the problem to the module owner.

I booted Kubuntu 12.04 liveCD and installed KMyMoney 4.6.1 on the fly.

When I launch the application, the minimal horizontal window dimension is a bit larger than expected, but not as bad as in Ubuntu.

This test is inconclusive.

The only desktop we are getting this error is in Unity. So, the error may be in KMyMoney's source, but it's only triggered by some behaviour in Unity, and it doesn't happen in other desktops.
Can we please keep looking into this, and not just close it as invalid?
I'm a KMM developer, BTW.

On Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin, when you enter an account register for the first time, the horizontal dimension of the entire KMM window enlarges so as to truncate the rightmost balance info.

The only workaround is to drag the KMM window to the left under the Unity launcher to expose the rightmost truncated info.

This is reproducible. It happens on first entry into a register. If you never enter a register, you will never see this problem.

Looks very similar.

I am attaching 2 screenshots as follows:
1. shot of right clicking on your sample file and opening with KMM
2. shot of your sample file checking account ledger

Both show the truncation I mentioned in comment #20.

peterzay (peterzay) wrote :

Note that I can slightly reduce the horizontal dimension of your sample file as per the attached screenshot.

I can also do this for my personal KMM file and by the same amount. This is NEW behaviour. When the problem was originally reported, no horizontal resizing was possible.

Note that the resizing causes the KMM file to be modified. For me, this is curious and unexpected behaviour. I let you decide if it is ok.

I never modify software fonts, I always use defaults except for word processing and presentation.

Borrowing from bartabbas for Bug #995256, I solved the problem by adding Kmymoney ppa repo :

This bug doesn't seem to affect Kmymoney 4.6.3. (current version) on my system (Ubuntu 12.04)

Hi,
I encountered the problem on two different Pc running Ubuntu 12.04.
On the first one, which has a 1280x1024 display, upgrading kmm to version 4.6.3 (as per post #27) solved the problem.
On the second, with a 1024x768 display, the upgrade to 4.6.3 did NOT solve the problem, the kmm window remains to large, by about 260 pixels (that's about 1280-1024). I guess that the default window width is hard coded somewhere.

This should probably be closed as outdated. KMyMoney has recently released version 5.1, which is very different in the underlying KDE libraries (now Frameworks) being used.
