Bug Description
Binary package hint: kexec-tools
The instructions on the Ubuntu Wiki for enabling crash dumps is "just install linux-crashdump". I found that it was not enabled on my system because kdump had only been added to runlevel 2. This should either be enabled in all or none - doing so in one and only one does not seem to me to be a sensible default.

The default runlevel for Ubuntu happens to be 2.
