Bug Description
Binary package hint: kernel-package
Sorry I can't use the automatic bug reporting processes... I can't boot into Ubuntu at all.
Booting Lucid Beta 1 LiveUSB (created from a Jaunty system using new ISO).
The boot process goes OK until I see the five red/white dots. They cycle for a long time, and never get any further. If I CTRL-ALT-F1 to see the console, it shows the following line repeated 8 times:
/init: line 7: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found
And then it says "stdin: I/O error" <-- that line might have been me, trying to get a console
The laptop is an HP zx5000 with 768MB of RAM. The LiveUSB stick did boot OK on another Pentium4-based machine that I have.

OK, apparently all I have to do is file a bug and it starts working again.
Actually, I rebooted and tried the extra options: acpi=off, noapic and nodma (also took out "splash" and "quiet") and it booted up just fine. I just about jumped out of my seat when the startup sound played, as I was expecting it to hang again.
