Monitor screen flashes on use of keyboard and mouse

Bug Description

SUMMARY:
After successful installation of the latest Kubuntu release (8.10), I've noticed that each time I attempt to do anything within the window environment, my screen goes blank, and then reappears. This often seems to happen when I'm either accessing the keyboard or mouse (pretty much *all* the time) -- a very annoying problem!!! My 'gut reaction' tells me this is likely an X Window thing.

Release
8.10 (Kubuntu)

EXPECTED RESULT:
While using the mouse or keyboard, the monitor (screen) should NOT go blank every few seconds.

ACTUAL RESULT:
The monitor goes blank for a few seconds and then reappears each time I use either the mouse or keyboard

this is a stupid hack, but it does the job - if you don't rely on krunner to start your programs

starting it again makes the screen flashes re-appear.

Nice to know. A couple of follow-up questions:

   1. what is the purpose of krunner?
   2. how should I go about removing krunner after startkde is initiated?
should I place a command in the rc.local file, something like "kill -9
   krunner"?

Thanks.

did that fix it for you?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278471 < seems to be the same problem, but they have a different fix which doesn't work here

i haven't tried it, but maybe commenting out the line which starts krunner in /usr/bin/startkde works, otherwise you can just do killall krunner

krunner is the dialog you get when you press alt-f2, it's for starting programs, accessing documents etc. - it's like gnome's deskbar

My apologies for not getting back to you earlier --- I was out of
town. The fix noted in 278471 did not work for me. However, the
"killall krunner" fix worked perfectly. I'd also like to share some
additional information that may prove helpful in debugging this issue.
I noticed that when I attempted to restart krunner (after applying
the killall command) I received the following output from the terminal

sudo krunner
