Bug Description

Today I updated Kubuntu 15.04 to 15.10 and I noticed that Telepathy is now using a different authentication method for Google Hangouts. Instead of login with user/pass, Telepathy now opens a web browser so you can login into your account and give Telepathy login permissions and whatever it asks.

Everything in the setup goes fine, but when I try to go online, it tries for a few seconds and than it just stops (no message or anything). Also in the Telepathy settings Online Accounts -> Google Hangouts, Plasma crashes.

I noticed this one guy from the Kubuntu forums https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?69182-Telepathy-and-Google-Hangouts is having the same exact issue.

I'm also affected by this, adding a new google account, and then clicking on configure hangouts makes Plasma crash

Not quite sure that #351785 is the same bug. The proposed fix is just UI, where as ktp-auth-handler log is indicating lack of supported auth mechanism. Attaching log of ktp-auth-handler while performing unsucessfull auth.

Still broken in 16.04

Is it already known what is causing it? Are there maybe any workarounds?

Same issue here. I would also like to note that my Google account has two step authentication activated.

So, is this going to be fixed in 16.04?
