Kaffeine doesn't play DVD's or VCD's

Bug Description

I have installed libdvdcss.

When I insert a DVD to play, Kaffeine says

Codec is already installed - see snapshot3.png

If I open file on the storage media - dvd - it then says

No plugin found - see snapshot2.png

I've tried several DVD's - all of them work with Kaffeine on Debian 4.0, also with Vlc and Noatum on Debian 4.0

this is Kaffeine 0.8.6. (On Debian I'm still using Kaffeine 0.8.5)

this is reproducible - every DVD or VCD causes it to crash - in fact I haven't been able to watch a single DVD with Kaffeine yet.

Tried to attach the snapshots, but couldn't.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in kaffeine.

I could easily reproduce this one and attached a screenshot of the error message, which occurs, when I tried to play a dvd with kaffeine.

Steps to reproduce:

Put a dvd (I don`t knwo if its css protected or not) in your drive, on the dialog which asks you what to do, select "view dvd with kaffeine"

Kaffeine starts. Then a small window with a progress bar is shown. Title: "Kaffeine codec installer" which is very fast on 100%.
Then an new dialog/message box appears, showing me "Error: Codec package already installed" with an OK Button. When clicking on the Button, the Error message and the kaffeine codec installer window disappears. Kaffeine does not crash, but does not show the dvd either.

This you could see in the attached screenshot.

I had expected, that the co

Happend on an up-to-date Hardy Heron.
~$ kaffeine -v
Qt: 3.3.8b
KDE: 3.5.9
Kaffeine Player: 0.8.6

I obtain the same issue with different video files, i attached a video showing what happens when opening the video.
- Kaffeine starts to search for codecs (i installed all the codecs in gutsy - everything worked fine - but since i upgraded i can't see those videos)
- It downloads them
- It comes to know that they are already installed and prints an error
- Clicking Ok makes previous steps to repeat over and over again.
- Closing Kaffeine stops this loop

Same here what Dareus reported, gutsy updated to hardy. The dvd playback has been ok for two weeks or so but suddenly it stopped, maybe because of some updates that have been installed, I've changed no settings.

This bug is very annoying ; some weeks ago i was able to play DVDs by replacing the /dev/dvd option in xine engine parameters with /dev/scd0, but now this fix doesn't work anymore. BTW I only have problem with DVDs, other media files play fine.

Looks like my drive just won't like this dvd. It worked fine last week, another disk works fine now - but this one doesn't. It doesn't look any scratchy to me.. But I guess it's the disk :/
