Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

This is a feature requirement...

Should be an option into K3B to disable the automatic generation of md5 checksum when loading ISO images.

Although these function is really helpful when burning downloaded CDs, it gets so slow when burning DVD isos (> 4GiB), so i think these md5 checksum should be optional.

Steps to reproduce:
1.- Open K3b.
2.- Load an ISO image.
3.- md5 checksum automatically starts calculating.

By the way, I'm using Hardy Heron 8.04 (k3b version 1.0.4-2ubuntu4).

Thanks.

You can always skip this check.. it just starts automatically, but you do not have to wait for it to finish.

That's true... but still I believe an option should be a great idea...

Hi!

I have to agree here, there should be some way to turn this off. It may not make much of a difference if you burn an image that is residing on a local disk, but when the image resides on a network disk it's another story. This feature effectively doubles the time it takes to burn a CD/DVD image when a 100Mbit LAN is used since the LAN bandwidth is what limits the burn speed. It's less of a problem with a gigabit network, but still quite noticeable.

Best regards,
Lars

I really like the power and flexibility of K3B, but this is my only gripe so far. IMHO there at least needs to be the option.

The other thing (for me, anyways), is it will remember your last image selected and start churning your HDD to calc the md5 on that automatically first. Normally this can just be an annoyance, but I can think of cases where this is harmful, one example being a laptop where it sucks your battery life.

(In general I'm not a fan of the trend where software is trying to be smarter than the human operator, helpfully(?) deciding what they want to do or what's good for them.)
