Bug Description
Binary package hint: talkd
I could not get talk/talkd to work no matter what I did. Command talk
started talkd, but soon talkd exited and no connection was established.
Then I took the source package (apt-get source talkd), compiled it, and copied the
resulting binary talkd over the existing one. As a result the talk started to work.
The only remaining issue is that the talk requests do not appear to "xterm's" for a
user logged in locally (running X), but seem to work properly for the users who are
logged in from elsewhere, e.g., using ssh. This is probably totally unrelated issue.
In case it matter, I am running the latest Ubuntu 8.04 in a standard 32-bit x86 machine.
(I wonder if anyone else still uses the talk program though ...)
Ran into this problem today, to my frustration! That's at least one other user who still cares about talk/talkd.
