power-indicator frozen immediately after boot

Bug Description

On a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04.1, immediately after booting or resuming the system, power indicator stops updating and instead remains stuck at whatever state it was in upon boot. Power Statistics seems to accurately display the battery status, but indicator and power settings do not. I saw this problem popped up a few years back with Samsung machines and was subsequently patched, but haven't heard much about it recently.
When i run
upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT1
the proper information shows up.
My laptop has only 1 battery, and I was under the impression that it should show up under BAT0, but I am not entirely sure. The issue has not affected the actual charging and discharging of the battery.

This is tied to an Ubuntu bug as well ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-power/+bug/1315434 ), where mouse power is prioritized over laptop battery power. There is a workaround for the prioritization issue, but the fact that it does not update on battery discharge anyhow, is a huge issue.

I have encountered this on a ASUS laptop as well as an HP laptop, and it occurs in the last 2 Freya updates.

Many people have attempted to document workarounds (Google), like manual resets tied to CRON jobs, but nothing is a permanent fix.

Prioritizing mouse battery (which takes 8-18 months to discharge) over laptop power (which discharges in 2-8 hours) is a huge, HUGE (yes, all caps) issue IMHO. It effectively renders laptop installs of elementary as "crippled." And when all of my laptop batteries repeatedly runs out of power, despite saying 80%, it makes elementary OS for portability with laptops untenable.

(If that had not been a drive-by comment, I would have asked what evidence there is that the two bugs are "tied" in any way. Unless there is, please avoid spreading discussion of the same bug over multiple bug reports.)

Hi Matt,
It was suggested by the Facebook site for elementary OS that I post a bug to this forum as shown here:

Sorry if this is a duplicate post--just doing what I was asked to do.

Cheers!
