Bug Description
Current situation:
When there are no messages to show, the indicator menu only shows the list of apps that can currently publish messages.
Clicking on any app name opens the app in a browser instance.
Suggestion:
Only show the indicator in the case of pending messages; hide it otherwise, decluttering a bit the indicators area.
The only use case is the links to the apps. I'd say that, at the moment they only serve as app shortcuts that can't be removed: if so, they should live better in unity panel instead, where they can be removed or pinned in a more flexible way.
If the links serve as a shortcut to each specific user's account, then they should be moved to the "online accounts" section of the System Settings (if they are not there already, they should be)

Thank you for your suggestions, note that the indicator is also useful when there is no message, it let you
- change your online status (when using some IM clients)
- do action like compose a new email
- start the softwares/focus them when needed
