Binary package hint: indicator-applet
(I'm using fully updated 64bit Karmic)
Whenever I change my pidgin status (available, away, etc) using indicator-
This does not happen when I use pidgin's built-in icon tray menu.

Do you have your MSN account configured in Empathy as well? It is
probably trying to log on there.
