Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Using Karmic Ubuntu Netbook Remix on a Dell Mini 9.

I do not use auto-login.

Selecting "Lock Screen" from indicator-applet-session doesn't do anything.

Ctrl-Alt-L locks the screen as expected, as does the following:

dbus-send --print-reply --reply-timeout=100 --dest=org.gnome.ScreenSaver / org.gnome.ScreenSaver.Lock

Screen saver was not ticked in the Startup Applications, Ctrl-Alt-L now works, but switch user has gone

I've found my machine unlocked a number of times, when I expected it to be safely locked away. As it turns out, this is the culprit, I've been telling my machine to lock and it hasn't happened.

The keyboard shortcut for locking works, as does the normal screensaver timeout.

Setting Importance to High. There is an expectation of auto-lock on idle sessions.

This is caused by gnome-screensaver dying and not being detected by indicator-applet. A fix for this has been committed to Lucid.

This presents a security problem that should be addressed in karmic, since Lucid's still a ways off. What bug# is it in gnome-screensaver or indicator-applet, and how do we go about getting the fix pushed backwards?

In lucid, gnome-screensaver has a DBus service configuration file, so if it dies, it will get re-spawned automatically. Also, indicator-session now gets the DBus proxy on request.
