convert fails to resize jepg photo

This is found on a fully updated Focal.
My system is updated from 16.04 -> 18.04 -> 19.10 -> 20.04

Observe the link chain:
/usr/bin/convert -> /etc/alternatives/convert -> /usr/bin/convert-im6.q16 (looks funky)
