Bug Description

I want to use the imagemagick "import" command to grab a rectangula area.
It should return only the visible content of the screen, that is, the top most windows. But when there are many windows overlapping sometimes it doesn't work that way.

I have Ubuntu 12.10 with Unity but this problem exists in the recent years!

My graphics card is:
Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

The scrot command to capture screen images works well .

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1083128/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I think it is not related because I dont get black images. I just get
the contents of the wrong window.

It affects me too. My graphic card is Intel® Sandybridge Mobile
On the other machine which has the nVidia card, installing proprietary drivers fixed the problem.
I am under Unity on Ubuntu 13.04

I have had this issue for a long time too. I can't seem to find what is the trigger for the bug, but I get it frequently.

I am on Ubuntu 14.04, with NVIDIA proprietary drivers.
