HAL has been removed from Kubuntu for some reason. Thinking it's not such a pretty idea to install it again then.

Would be nice to find out why HAL was removed, if any alternatives for HWINFO exist, and how GRUB2 assures to find the right Screen resolution (Framebuffer) during the boot process

I installed hwinfo and was able to run it once then i wanted to do hwinfo > hw.txt and id gave

i installed hal witch also installed hal hal-info smartdimmer and hwinfo after that Works\

ALSO it work on completly clean Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Netbook Remix but if on clean after updates and autoremove unneeded packages then installing hwinfo makes it not work

Installing hal package solve the problem.

A easy fix for developers could be add hal add dependency on hwinfo deb package. A better fix could be detect hal presence on hwinfo and don't call to dbus if hal is not present

hal installation solved it.

When hal is installed, hwinfo writes all to one line and is impossible to read the output or grep text from it.
